Build hand-sewing skills in making these cute little monster pillows. You will select your own colors for the monster, pin and cut out the felt, design the details and make the pillow(s) you can take home or give as gifts to sport your talents. By the time you are done, you will be a ‘pro’ at sewing on buttons and mending small items. Join us for a week of creative fun!
Monday: Today will entail learning the use a needle and thread. Students will learn to thread the needle, make knots and practice simple embroidery stitches that will be used on their monster pillows. Skills learned: threading needle, knots. Additional skills as needed: outline stitch, blanket stitch, satin stitch, lazy daisy stitch, and chain stitch as well as how to sew on buttons. Practice will be done on index paper. Here are links to videos on how to do each stitch in case you forget!
Tuesday: Today we will pin and sew our teeth onto the pocket, pin and sew the pocket on the pillow front and begin sewing buttons on for eyes.
Wednesday: Students will pin and sew the front to the back, stuff and sew the pillow closed, embellish their pillow with buttons, ribbons and trim to personalize.
Thursday: Free-lance day; students can make any pillow designs they desire with materials available.
